Oakland police say "Chicken Hawk" robber has hit two dozen eateries
FROM STAFF REPORTS

OAKLAND — The Chicken Hawk bandit has spread his wings.
Police said Thursday the number of robberies linked to the suspect they call Chicken Hawk because of his propensity to target restaurants that serve chicken has grown to at least 24 and he is now hitting other kinds of businesses.
To help identify and snare the suspect, police on Thursday released new surveillance tapes and pictures of him and increased the reward for information leading to his arrest to up to $25,000.
The spree started Jan. 31, and the most recent robbery police believe he committed happened April 13 at a gas station mini-mart in the 3600 block of Park Boulevard.
He has also struck auto parts stores and other businesses.
Sgt. Mark Thomas said the suspect could be responsible for other robberies, but because surveillance photos taken at those businesses are not of the best quality it is hard to tell.
He said the suspect has changed the distinctive clothing he was wearing in the earlier robberies, which included a yellow jacket.
In some of the recent robberies he is wearing just dark pants and a T-shirt.
The suspect usually enters the business with a gun drawn and goes directly to a clerk and demands money.
So far no one has been injured in any of the robberies.
The robber is described as black, in his late 20s, between 5 feet 9 inches and 5 feet 11 inches and about 185 pounds. He has a mustache and goatee.
Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call police at 510-238-3326 or Crime Stoppers of Oakland at 510-777-8572 or 510-777-3211.
