Five Oakland men face federal drug charges

Five Oakland men are facing life imprisonment after a grand jury indictment on drug charges after a three-year investigation by federal, state and local authorities, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

A federal grand jury indicted Jorge Eduardo Rodriguez, Mauricio Aguilera, Leonardo Oregon Rico, Jose Carlos Cisneros and Jorge Sanchez on Oct. 13, U.S. Attorney Joseph P. Russoniello announced today.

According to the indictment unsealed Thursday, all of the defendants participated in a conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute cocaine from at least Oct 10, 2007, through March 31. The charges carry a possible sentence of 10 years to life.

Rodriguez also is charged with conspiring to possess with intent to distribute and to distribute methamphetamine and possessing at least 500 grams of cocaine with the intent to distribute it Dec. 7, 2007, according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney's Office.

He was also charged with possessing at least 50 grams of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute it March 7, 2008, according to the U.
