LIVERMORE It will likely take many years and several billion dollars to bring a long sought-after BART extension to Livermore, according to local officials and a newly released environmental document.
BART on Friday unveiled a draft environmental impact report for the proposed project, which outlines nine possible alignments and station configurations. The routes, all of which originate at the existing Dublin/Pleasanton BART station, range in length from 5.2 to 13.2 miles.
While it ultimately will be up to the BART board to decide the route, buy-in will be needed from a multitude of local and regional agencies to bring the as yet unfunded project to fruition. Two upcoming public hearings will give stakeholders an opportunity to comment on the environmental report. The city of Livermore also will host a series of community workshops to gather input on issues such as how much parking is desired and how the land around the future Livermore route should be developed.
