July 28, 1944- May 9, 2008 Resident of Union City Robert E. Whitaker, 63 yrs, died peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on May 9, 2008. He is survived by his loving wife, Marcia; children, Roni, John (Danielle) June (Edgar), Matthew, and Brennan; grandchildren, Heather, John (Miriam), Addy, Nic, Elise; great-grandchild, Brianna; his mother, Ripple Irene Whitaker, siblings, Alvia Seymour, Dick (Sheila), Gene (Betty), Jerry (Tanya), Linda, mother-in-law, Irene Keeley, brother-in-law, Donald Keeley (Joanne); numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and other close family & friends. He was lovingly cared for in his last weeks by Kitione Tuapati, Jr. Bob was born in Pontotoc, MS, and was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, serving 9 years during the ColdWar/Vietnam War, earning a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. He was a Peace Officer for the Hayward Police Department for 12 years, and owned and operated a successful consulting firm for over 20 years, serving both the public and private sector. He was a Records Manager for 5 years for the Santa Clara Police Department, retiring in December of 2006. He was an ardent supporter of the Arts, (music, theater, photography); a member of the Southern Alameda County Buddhist Church, Alameda Lodge #167, Free and Accepted Masons of California, Retired Peace Officers Association of California, Association for Intelligence Officers, and the American Legion. A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be held in Bob's honor on Saturday, May 17th at 3:00 pm at the Southern Alameda County Buddhist Church, 32975 Alvarado Niles Road, Union City, CA 94587. A reception will follow in the church hall. Bob asked that memorial gifts in his memory be sent to: Recht Brain Tumor Research Laboratory, Stanford University, Office of Medical Development, 2700 Sand Hill Road, Menlo Park, CA 94025. Checks should be made payable to "Stanford University", in the memo field, please write "Recht Brian Tumor Research Laboratory". Gifts are tax deductible.
